Bocas del Toro

Bocas del Toro's reefs are some of the most beautiful and well preserved in the world. Both the soft and hard coral. There is a huge variety of tropical reef life like sting rays and sharks. The diving conditions are superb throughout the entire year, particularly for training. During the months of March, April, August, September and October the sea conditions are flatter providing access to many more remote sites. Here is a list of some great diving sites.

Playground

It is a circular reef in front of Bocas town. The site has a lot of soft coral formations, more than most in the area, and turtles are seen here. The maximum depth is sixteen meters.

The Wreck

This is an old landing craft intentionally sunk in the year 2000 to create an artificial reef. It is above the reef which surrounds Isla Colon's most southerly point.

The Whorehouse

Believe it or not this is actually a dive site! It is adjacent to the airport runway. It is usually the calmest water of all the dive sites and it covers a sloping reef that stretches around the base of the island.

San Cristobal

About twenty minutes from Starfleet, this dive site lies between Isla Colon and Isla San Cristobal. It centers around marker nineteen on the deep shipping channel, where the sea bed crests towards the surface creating a circular reef. Depths range from nine to twenty meters.

Crawl Cay

It is mostly visited on Starfleets all day diving tour, it has some of the best coral formations in the area and is located in the channel at the southern end of Isla Bastimentos. The maximum depth is twenty meters here.

The Log

This site got its name from an old tree which used to break the surface there but has now sunk to the bottom. The site boasts one of the largest variety of coral formations in the area, that stretches along a two kilometer run. Depths go from six to eighteen meters.

Coral Garden

Located on the west side of Isla Solarte. The site is known for some of the best coral in the region and is a definite must-see. Depts range four to eighteen meters.

Manuel's Wall

The site lies just inside the deep channel off Isla Solarte. The site is made up of two walls, the first one being at fourteen meters and the the second one being at twenty two meters. This site is one of the deepest ones inshore, with depths beyond thirty meters.

Buoy Line

Located on the north end of Isla Solarte and slightly to mainland side. There is a deep water channel marker buoy that is a convenient descent point to begin your dive. It starts with with flat sand at seven meters and slopes to a reef starting at twelve meters and falling to more than twenty meters. This inshore site is where you are most likely to encounter slightly stronger currents and because of that you are also more likely wo find larger marine species.

Hospital Point

The site is a five minute boat ride from the dive center and is located at the north end of Isla Solarte. When the tide is right a small current will drift divers along the entire site. The reef starts at two meters and is mostly cauliflower and brain coral, and it gradually descends until becoming a wall at sixteen meters. The wall has lots of caverns, and cracks full of a variety of marine life.

Diving Offshore

During the months of March, April, September and October, a series of additional dive sites are accessible. They offer much deeper water, strong currents, caves, and swim-throughs. You will also find larger species of marine life out here.

Accomodations

The resort comprises of wooden cabins, built on the old caribbean architecture,  on concrete stilts over the water, accessed by elevated wooden walk ways.

The cabins accomodates from 2 to 8 people. Each with a balcony facing  the sea, from where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of a caribbean sunset.
